Brixmor Brixipedia

Posted by Mark Kalkwarf in: Custom SharePoint App

Brixmor’s SharePoint 2010 site did not enable easy delivery of their IT policies and procedures to employees across the department. This challenge also extended across all functional units within the organization.

Outcome

As the client was in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013, it was decided to implement an Enterprise Wiki site built upon an on-premises SharePoint 2013 environment.

Business Case

Brixmor Property Group owns and operates the largest wholly owned portfolio of grocery-anchored community and neighbourhood shopping centres in the USA. Their IT department used a site built upon SharePoint 2010 to facilitate internal collaboration on IT projects as well as act as a store for its project documents. The site however did not enable the easy delivery of their IT policies and procedures to employees across the department. This challenge also extended across all functional units within the organization.

Solution

As the client was in the process of migrating to SharePoint 2013, it was decided to implement an Enterprise Wiki site built upon an on-premises SharePoint 2013 environment. The wiki solution had the following objectives:

  • Provide a site that is structured in a way that can be scaled out to all functional units in a timely fashion.
  • Provide content authors with tools to easily create rich content.
  • Create a navigation structure that is dynamic and can be easily maintained by administrators.
  • Give users a central point of access to all wiki articles as well as the ability to quickly view new and recently updated articles.
  • Brand the site in accordance with Brixmor’s branding guidelines.

Project

The project lifecycle included collaborative design between Brixmor and Open Box, technical analysis, development and support of the end product. The duration of the project from the start of development to live deployment was 9 weeks.

The following technologies were used in the implementation of this project:

  • SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Edition
  • SharePoint 2013 Design Manager for Site Branding
  • Enterprise Wiki Site Template
  • Client-Site Frameworks (JQuery and AJAX)
  • Content by Search Web Part
  • Search Service Application

Benefits

IT employees now have a central point of access to all process, policy and procedure documentation. Improvements will also be realized across all functional units in the quality of content authoring, time to delivery as well as content accessibility.
